V. CONCLUSION
First, we analyzed the influence of MPBG on a half-wavelength dipole within a metallic structure. This shows interesting results, especially when two different MPBGs are combined, one in reflection and one in transmission. The diffraction at the surface of the MPBG is then suppressed, enhancing the directivity. Moreover, the matching of such a structure is easier. We have presented the influence of the MPBG shape in the case of a square corner MPBG used as a reflector or radome. In the reflection case, MPBG can be useful to adapt the input impedance, keeping a good directivity. In the propagation case, this kind of shape can improve the angular filtering characteristics in order to obtain a flat filter response.
