β¦ Synopsis
As part of a continuing study of multisulfur compounds 1-4, the electrochemical reductions of several cyclic trithiosulfonium ions in nonaqueous media have been studied. The presence of non-bonding electrons as well as vacant atomic orbitals in multisulfur compounds is the basis for the varied redox chemistry of these compounds. Recent reports attest to the variety of electrode reactions possible for organosulfur compounds 5-7.
The compounds investigated in this study were a series of perchlorate, fluorosulfonate or tetrafluoroborate salts of cyclic trithiosulfonium ions (I-IV).
