โœฆ Synopsis

By means of the Keldysh-Green function method, the electrochemical potential variations along a one-dimensional chain are analysed. The chain is joined to two reservoirs simulated by Bethe lattices. In our calculation we introduce Hartree-consistency between the potentials and the charges induced along the chain. Ideal chains and the cases of chains with one and two barriers are treated. Our results show the different quantum coherence effects between the contacts and the one-dimensional chain as a function of the Fermi energy, the barrier heights and the chain length. The double barrier case is discussed from the point of view of the heterostructure bistability.

Phonon heat transport in mesoscopic systems is investigated using methods analogous to the Landauer description of electrical conductance. A 'universal heat conductance' expression that depends on the properties of the conducting pathway only through the mode cutoff frequencies is derived. Correctio
