โœฆ Synopsis

New boilers first introduced into service and old boilers coming from overhaul receive a cleaning process involving an acid wash and a surface passivation process. Both operations are prone to be followed out electrochemically. The conditions for obtaining a clean met.31 surface through treatment with citric acid solutions are examined. The effects of temperature. time of treatment and of surface oxidation on the open circuit potentials of steel coupons are established. Passivation of the clean surface with H202 and NilNO is studied and the threshold of concentration necessary for inhibition is determined. The stability of the passive films and their susceptibility to pitting attack by Cl-ion are compared.

## Abstract Some general considerations about the validity and usefulness of corrosion rate monitoring using the polarization resistance method are developed and the theory of __Stern__ and __Geary__ is shortly discussed. The basic aspects of the acid cleaning of steam generators, the role of corro
