โฆ Synopsis
The major source of haematite is undoubtedly the thermal decomposition, under oxidizing conditions, of pyrite and of the carbonate and sulphate minerals (Tables 2 and3). These reactions have been extensively studied'.
The major conclusion from this study is that careful studies of the thermolysis of pure minerals can be helpful for the more certain assignment of Mossbauer resonances in coal ashes which have previously been classified as arising from 'paramagnetic phases'. In addition, these phases may be informative as to the thermal history of a given ash.
