✦ Synopsis
The acidity-potential diagrams of molten Ba(OH), , calculated from thermochemical data at different temperatures between 50&7OO"C, allow the definition of the stability ranges of oxygen redox systems in this medium. Values calculated have then been compared with experimental results obtained from voltammetric studies at Pt and Ni electrodes. It is shown that the oxidation of oxide ions leads to peroxide ions, but is not followed, as in molten NaOH, by a second oxidation step of peroxide ions into superoxides. The solubility of BaO in molten Ba(OH), has been estimated.
