✦ Synopsis

The complexes of molybdenum(W) with iminodiacctic acid (IDA), nitri)otriacetic acid (NTA) and elhylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) were investigated by means of polarographic and spectroscopic methods. The composition of the complexes was determined by the Job's method as following: JMo(VI)/iIDA; lMo(VI)/lNTA and 2Mo(M)/lEDTA. The polarographic wave height was fairly dependent on the nature of the complexes. The overall reaction rate for the reduction of MO(W)-IDA complex was limited by diffusion. On the other hand, the polarogTapbic reduction of MO(W)-NTA and -EDTA complexes were kinetically controlled by the preceding chemical reaction which was composed of protonation, dimerization and substitution of ligands, however, the rate-determining step was the substitution of ligands. The mechanism for the electroreduction of each complex was discussed.

A multinuclear 1D and 2D NMR study of D-galacturonic and D-glucuronic acids in aqueous solution and their complexation with tungstate and molybdate ions tor variable concentration and pH conditions has been undertaken. The acids exist mainly in the pyranose forms, but complexes were detected involvi
