✦ Synopsis
A photonic microwave true-time delay utilizing an asymmetrically tapered chirped fiber Bragg grating whose cladding is partially side-polished is proposed and demonstrated. A resistive heating electrode is incorporated on top of the tapered fiber in order to control the time delay continuously without any mechanical perturbation and moving, while requiring only a single-wavelength light. The time delay was obtained by adjusting the reflection positions of the optical signal carrying the microwave signal from within the chirped grating via the thermo-optic effect. The achieved time delay was ϳ120 ps for the control voltage of 5 V.
