Abstract
A novel electronic beam steering is achieved by varying the amplitude of each radiating element in a microstrip array on a curved surface. PIN diodes are used to turn on the radiating patches facing in the intended direction while turning off all other patches. Since the amplitudeβvarying antenna does not use expensive phase shifters, the resultant beamβsteering system is much less expensive than conventional phasedβarray antennas. A problem of a microstrip cylindrical phased array antenna mounted on an electrically large cylinder is discussed. The array antenna consists of N patches, which are placed in the azimuthal plane. The solution is obtained by the method of moments (MoM) in the spatial domain using an improved represe
