✦ Synopsis

The matters to be reviewed in this lecture are the temperature dependence of the resistivity of alloys at low and middle high temperatures and the influence of elastic and plastic deformation on the resistivity at normal temperatures. The theoretical background of the observed resistance effects will be discussed in the light of the paramagnetic properties of the alloys. I hope that the review shall make clear that in many cases correlations exist between the different effects studied at high and at low temperatures, and with this statement I want to apologize for my choice of a subject not restricted to low temperature phenomena for a lecture on this occasion.
