โฆ Synopsis
After a brief discussion of the general behavior of magnetism under high pressure across the periodic table, the use of pressure as a parameter in Kondo-lattice and heavy-fermion systems is outlined. The physical properties of both classes of systems depend on the magnitude of the characteristic Kondo temperature T K. Since T K is a sensitive function of the unit cell volume, high pressure is a particularly useful tool for exploring the different phases of these systems and checking theoretical predictions. The large body of high pressure data which exists for single impurity Kondo alloys is invaluable when analyzing the magnetic and superconducting properties of the magnetically more concentrated Kondo-lattice and heavy-fermion systems.
