In order to obtain highly conductive polymer electrolytes for an electric double layer capacitor, three kinds of polymer gel electrolytes were prepared. Vinyl acetate (VAc) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) were copolymerized with divinyl adipate (DA) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA), respecti

β¦ Synopsis
Polymer gel electrolytes consisting of poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN), propylene carbonate (PC) as a plasticizer and tetraalkylammonium salts such as tetrabutylammonium perchlorate, tetraethylammonium perchlorate and tetraethylammonium tetrafluoroborate have been investigated for electric double-layer capacitors with activated carbon fiber cloth electrodes. The PAN, PC and tetraalkylammonium composites showed high ionic conductivity (above 10 -s S cm-' at 298 K). The ionic conductivity increased with an increase in the salt concentration and a decrease in the size of each ion. The composites were electrochemically stable over a wide potential range (cu. 5.OV). The application of the PAN and tetraethylammonium tetrafluoroborate composites to the electric double-layer capacitors with activated carbon fiber cloths as polarizable electrodes resulted in large values of capacitance and high coulombic efficiency. The low leakage current at constant voltage floating (2 V) and the long voltage retention in the self-discharge test were obtained in the capacitor with tetraethylammonium tetrafluoroborate.

## Abstract The improvement on commercial activated carbon (AC) through the reactivation under steam in the presence of NiCl~2~ catalyst leads to the increases of both energy and power densities of electric double layer (dl) capacitors. When AC was treated at 875 Β°C for 1 h, its discharge specific
Activated carbon fiber sheets (ACF sheets) have been developed as polarizable electrodes of electric double layer capacitors. The ACF sheets were prepared by a paper-making process from activated carbon fibers (ACF), carbon fibers (CF), and pulps. The specific surface area of ACF sheets depended pro
