Abstract

Electrical conductivity of a semiconductor may be determined by the equilibrium concentration of Schottky or Frenkel defects which act as donors or acceptors. It is shown, that at sufficiently high temperatures this self‐activated semiconductivity predominates over the electronic intrinsic conductivity in all known semiconductors. In semiconductors with a band gap larger than the disorder energy for Schottky or Frenkel defects, self‐activated semiconductivity predominates over intrinsic conductivity at all temperatures.
