✦ Synopsis

Many authors have dealt with the formation of the complexes of 1,4benzenediol and some metals in concentrated sulphurlc acid 1-7. However, no data can be found in the literature either on the reaction of 1,4-benzenediol with concentrated sulphurlc acid or on the possible effect of such a reaction on the composition of the complex compound formed. In order to be able to discuss this problem in more detail we decided to investigate the behaviour of the following systems: concentrated sulphuric acid 1,4-benzenediol and concentrated sulphuric acld-hydroxybenzene.

InvestlgaUons were carried out by measuring conductivity and viscosity of 1,4-benzenediol and hydroxybenzene solutions in concentrated sulphuric acid.
