โฆ Synopsis
This work presents an analytical model for the indentation of a smooth coated cylinder. This model takes into account the elastic properties of the cylinders and the elastic then elastoplastic behaviour of the coating. Two sets of interface conditions were investigated. In one, the coating is freely laid on its substrate; in the other the coating is bounded to it. The model provides a prediction of the width of contact under load. A specifically designed experimental apparatus allowed comparisons between these predictions and experimental results, which showed a good agreement at least at high load.
