✦ Synopsis

The effects of bearing shell deformation on the performance characteristics of hole-entry hybrid journal bearing configurations with orifice restrictors have been studied. The Finite Element Method has been used to solve the Reynolds equation and three-dimensional elasticity equations. The bearing performance characteristics are presented for a wide range of values of deformation coefficient (Cd), which is a measure of the flexibility of bearing shell. An example is also given to enhance understanding of the effects of bearing flexibility on performance characteristics. The results show that the performance characteristics of the bearing configurations studied are significantly affected at higher load (Wo) and flexibility ((~a).
