✦ Synopsis

This book presents a classic approach to engineering elasticity. The material presented is intended to serve as a basis for a critical study of the fundamentals of elasticity and several branches of solid mechanics, including advanced mechanics of materials, theories of plates and shells, composite materials, plasticity theory, finite element, and other numerical methods as well as nanomechanics and biomechanics. The lead author is considered one of the best authors in engineering mechanics alive today and has a number of well respected books to his credit. The classic approach taken is enhanced in this revision based on both the authors’ plans and their acceptance of reviewer comments asking for more coverage of "modern" subjects and applications such as nano- and biomechanical elasticity. The book also contains more engineering applications and examples to supplement the more theoretical coverage. The book is valuable as a text for students and as a reference for practicing engineers/scientists.
