Abstract

A method of calculating elastic moduli of simple helical polymers on the basis of the Urey‐Bradley force field is presented. The calculated values for polyethylene and polytetrafluoroethylene are 3.4 × 10^12^ and 1.6 × 10^12^ dynes/cm.^2^, respectively. The former value is in agreement with that obtained for the extended normal hydrocarbons and also in fairly good agreement with the experimental value of polyethylene. The general formula for the complex helix is also presented.
