Abstract
The elastic properties of lithium tetraborate Li~2~B~4~O~7~ single crystals have been studied by Brillouin scattering method. Using this method the propagation of the acoustic waves in the [100], [001], [110] and [011] directions has been estimated. The nonlinear optical coefficients d~31~ and d~33~ were measured using the Maker fringe technique. The temperature dependence of the nonlinear optical coefficient d~31~ does not confirm an earlier report on the existence of a phase transition in the temperature range from room temperature to 600°C.
