✦ Synopsis

Hitox titanium pigment prices raised for the second time this year

At the end of September 2005, the major suppliers of conventional TiO 2 pigments announced global price increases of around 6-10%. (See 'Focus on Pigments ', Nov 2005, 3).

TOR Minerals International supplies Hitox pigments, which are essentially milled synrutile, with a high TiO 2 content, but with a larger average particle size and a wider particle size distribution, as well as containing traces of iron oxides. The products are good opacifiers, but are buff or beige in colour. They used to be marketed as the "unique colour titanium pigments, priced at about 65-70% of the price of conventional TiO 2 pigments."

Citing "favourable supply/demand trends in the TiO 2 industry", TOR Minerals declared a $0.04 per pound ($88 per tonne) price increase for its Hitox pigments, effective as from 15 October 2005. This is the second price increase this year. In 1Q 2005, the company declared a $0.05 per pound ($110 per tonne) price increase.
