Single crystals of (\mathrm{KBiO}{2}) (colourless) and (\mathrm{RbBiO}{2}) (colourless) were obtained by solid state reaction of the respective binary metal oxides. Both crystal structures (\left(\mathrm{KBiO}{2}: C 2 / c ; a=783.13(9), b=790.92(1), c=596.86(8) \mathrm{pm}\right.), (\beta=124.81(1)^{\circ} ; Z=4 ; 445) diffractometer data; (R{1}=0.027); (w R^{2}=0.069 ; \quad \mathrm{RbBiO}_{2}: \quad C 2 / c ; \quad a=806.20(5), \quad b=838.88(4)), (c=598.14(4) \mathrm{pm}, \quad \beta=123.68(1)^{\circ} ; Z=4 ; 289) diffractometer
