bromide and naturally resistant to various quaternary ammonium compounds with alkyl chain lengths of C12-Cl8, was also used. Proteus vulgaris NCTC 4635 was used for determination of laboratory resistance to 1 as a strain with extremely high ability to acquire resistance to quaternaries.

The antibacterial activity of quaternary ammonium chlorides was determined using minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) procedure in nutrient broth.
