✦ Synopsis


The results obtained from simulation show that the maximum instantaneous SEP are about 50 % higher than the mean SEP. With increasing pool diameter the mean SEP decreases but the fluctuations still exist.

Results obtained from the simulation with an additional wind flow show that the flame is tilted, but the frequency of the formation of vortices, and thus the fluctuations of SEP, remain nearly unchanged unless the flame is tilted more than 30 degrees.

Flame temperatures, SEP and the flow field as a result of transient 2D-and 3D-simulations of large pool fires in stagnant atmosphere and under cross-wind conditions, are presented. These results are of interest for the loss prevention in the process industries.
