## Abstract The N‐alkylated 2‐benzoylamino‐benzophenones **2a–e** on treatment with lithium diisopropylamide in tetrahydrofuran at − 78° gave the cyclic alchols **3a–e** which were dehydrated with phosphorous oxychloride/pyridine to give the indoles **4a–e** in 30–72% yield (__Scheme 1__).
