✦ Synopsis
A micromethod for determining catalase activity in the tail tissue of larvae of Xenopus laevis DAUD. has been developed from the perborate method of FEINSTEIN. In the tails of Xenopus larvae catalase activity has much the same properties (pH optimum and range, apparent MICHAELIS constant, reaction course, linearity with homogenate concentration) as those described for rat liver homogenates and crystalline catalase. I t is concluded that catalases from various animal sources have the same prosthetic group but may differ in having species-specific proteins as apoenzymes.
