A description is given of an apparatus for the measurement of small. local variations of magnetic fieldstrengths. It principally consists of two coils rotating at the ends of an axis of 1 m length. When the coils are equal and in on'e plane the induced e.m.f's.will be equal in An homogeneous magnetic field and can compensate each other, when they are connected in series, Differences of the field at the locations of the two coils Can be compensated and measured by a supplementary magnetic field. Although the sensitivity is not as large as that for apparatus, working on the principle of the torsion-balance, the advantage is the immediate setting. Details of the apparatus and possible errors are discussed.
