We study the Abel-summability of the eigenfunction expansions associated with the differential operator L generated by 5 (0.1) and splitting three-point boundary conditions. It is shown that there is no straightforward analogy between multipoint and twopoint boundary value problems. Counterexamples

## Abstract Singular boundary conditions are formulated for nonโselfadjoint SturmโLiouville problems which are limitcircle in a very general sense. The characteristic determinant is constructed and it is shown that it can be used to extend the Birkhoff theory for so called โBirkhoff regular boundar
