✦ Synopsis

Nature of the physicalproblem This program computes the counting efficiency of a complex Catalogue number: AABO beta emitter as a function of the figure of merit in liquid scintillators. Program obtainable from: CPC Program Library, Queen's University of Belfast, N. Ireland (see application form in this issue) Method ofsolution The beta spectra are calculated from the Fermi theory of beta Computer: UNIVAC 1100/81; Installation: Centro de Cãlculo, decay, taking into account shape factors. The total detection Junta de Energia Nuclear, Ciudad Universitaria, Madrid, Spain probability is obtained by dividing the spectrum into bands, calculating the detection probability for each of them and Operating system: EXEC 8 summing up. The average and mean energies in the spectra are also obtained. Programming language used: FORTRAN ASCII Restrictions on the complexity of the problem High speed storage required: 18 kwords for the test run The counting efficiency of negatron and positron emitters can be obtained. Electron capture nuclides are not considered. Peripherals used: card reader, line printer Spectra are limited to 800 point~maximum, although this condition may be removed by increasing the storage of the No. of lines in combinedprogram and test deck: 521 corresponding arrays.
