Abstract

Alkyl 2‐nitroacetates 2 react with alkyl phenylpropiolates 1 in the presence of Ph~3~P in a mechanistically novel reaction to afford trialkyl 3‐phenylbuta‐1,3‐diene‐1,2,4‐tricarboxylates in yields of 60–80% under neutral conditions.
