Various sulfides were found to react with a sulfinylperoxy intermediate yenerdted in situ by the treatment of Z-nitrobenzenesulfinyl --chloride with superoxide at, -25 OC in acetonitrile to afford the corresponding sulfoxides selectively in excellent yields toyether with traceable amount of the sulfones under mild conditions.
