The 1,3βdibromoβ5,5βdimethylhydantoin (DBH) was found to efficiently catalyze the oneβpot synthesis of highly functionalized tetrasubstituted furan derivatives by the reaction of 1,4βdiarylbutβ2βeneβ1,4βdiones and acetoacetates in iβPrOH as the solvent at 80β90Β° for 3β7β h. The products were formed in high yields (82β95%) under mild and neutral conditions.
