✦ Synopsis
Water injection into some old wells in the Ain Zala-Buttmah oil field in northern Iraq resulted in souring the crudes, an effect which extended to non-flooded wells as well. No apparent relation exists between the presence of hydrogen sulphide and the composition of representative samples of these crudes. This may suggest that the source of hydrogen sulphide is mainly inorganic, a conclusion which is further supported by the nature of the gro.und formation of the region.
