โฆ Synopsis
The paper presents selected results of a study concerning the protective capacity of containment structures subjected to impulsive loading, produced by an underwater explosion of a spherical charge. The main application of these structures lies in design of underwater structures of great importance (tunnels, pipelines), which should also be protected against exceptional loads of this kind. In this study, a nonlinear "nite-element computer code ABAQUS/Explicit was applied to determine the permanent e!ects of explosion in a protective containment structure and in bearing elements of the main, protected structure. The numerical results obtained for various structural con"gurations of a protective structure were compared and discussed in order to "nd the best protection in terms of its e!ectiveness, weight and simple realization.
