Abstract
We demonstrate the impacts of the timeβdivision multiplexing (TDM) technique on a twoβpump wavelength Ramanβfiber amplifier. Modulation frequency is critical in this pumping technique, which can create temporal gain variations at low frequencies. The effective noise figure also degrades when utilizing this pumping scheme due to the arising of amplified spontaneous emission. Β© 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
