Abstract

We demonstrate the impacts of the time‐division multiplexing (TDM) technique on a two‐pump wavelength Raman‐fiber amplifier. Modulation frequency is critical in this pumping technique, which can create temporal gain variations at low frequencies. The effective noise figure also degrades when utilizing this pumping scheme due to the arising of amplified spontaneous emission. Β© 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in remote pumping scheme for L-band erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) was studied in this experiment. Observation was done on the gain and noise figure performance as well as the Raman distributed gains of the remotely-pumped L-band erbium-doped fibe
