β¦ Synopsis
The influence of chemical viscosity -a cross-effect arising from the coupling between the chemical reaction and the momentum flow -on the absorption of a plane sound wave is investigated.
Only one chemical reaction is explicitly taken into account and the contribution of heat conduction and diffusion to the sound absorption coefficient are assumed to be additive which is a good approximation in the considered frequency range.
It is shown how the resulting formulae can be used to obtain from experimental data all quantities of interest, in particular the relaxation time of the chemical process and the chemical viscosity.
