Second-and third-harmonic generation have been observed from organized monolayers of the hemicyanine dye H3C-(C5N+Ha)-CH=CH-(CbHd)-N(C,aH3,)\*. A second-order polar&ability 8=2.5x IO-\*'esu at 1.06 urn and 6.3~10~~' esu for resonant excitation at 0.9 15 pm was found. For molecules with the same chr
