The plastic deformation of two 18-8 stainless steels was studied in magnetic fields as large as 18 T at temperatures of 4, 77 and 290 K. Changes in stress-strain behavior during magnetic exposure at cryogenic temperatures are reported, and are associated with an enhanced f.c.c.+b.c.c. martensitic tr
