The hypothesis that behavioral suppression due to punishment requires the intact activity of an inhibitory cholinergic CNS mechanism is examined in three experiments in rats and squirrel monkeys. Scopolamine hydrobromide and scopolamine methyl nitrate decreased further operant lever pressing which w
