✦ Synopsis
Effects of sample spinning on "overtone" NMR of quadrupole nuclei with spin= 1 in the solid is investigated. A possibility for reducing second-order quadrupole broadening by DAS and DOR methods is also discussed.

## Abstract Magic‐angle spinning (MAS) has recently been shown to enhance spectral resolution in NMR examinations of intact biological tissue ex vivo. This work demonstrates that freezing certain tissue samples before examination by ^1^H MAS NMR can have a marked effect on their spectra. Spectra of

A method is described for calibrating a probe head for the thermal e †ects encountered during magnic angle spinning experiments. T, relaxation of one set of nuclei causes an extra-broadening and an apparent reduction of the spin-spin splitting in the NMR spectrum of another set of nuclei coupled to it. These effects are demonstrated by lime-shape calculations for first order multiplets of spin l/2 nuclei. It is shown that in
