✦ Synopsis
measure short time variations of refraction and ocular motility which are probably fully reversible in a few hours and are closely related to the visual work load. The method consists of five tests (near point of accommodation, near point of convergence, phorias, vergence and refraction), which were selected because of their specific capacity to explore ocular functions strictly connected to near point vision (accommodation, convergence and fusion), and because they can be performed with portable instruments not involving any complex or distressing procedures for the subjects. The investigation should be performed on operators not suffering from any serious visual defects. Criteria are outlined for the selection of the exposed and control groups. Suggestions are made for interpretation of the variations that may be registered.
