## Abstract The visual pigment rhodopsin has been extensively studied for the kinetics of its photointermediates by various spectroscopic methods. Unlike such archaeal retinal proteins as bacteriorhodopsin, visual rhodopsin does not thermally recover its dark state after photoexcitation, which prec
