✦ Synopsis

The effects of the methanol extract from the aerial parts of Oenanthe javanica Dc., which have been used in Korean folklore medicine for alcohol detoxication, and the component isolated from this plant, persicarin on the hepatic enzyme were studied. The methanol extract and persicarin enhanced the activities of alcohol dehydrogenase, microsomal ethanol oxidizing system and aldehyde dehydrogenase in the liver of rats intoxicated with ethanol.
