✦ Synopsis
Universita' Cattolica, Roma, Italia The trabecular architecture of the femural head has been reconstructed in the different planes of the 3-D space thanks to image processing and computer-graphics techniques. It has been possible to analyze the trabecular orientation in several planes of a single specimen without inferring it from cuttings of different specimens in different planes. Fresh samples of human, pig and sheep femural head have been embedded and cut in seriate sections. Radiographs have been taken of the SeCtiOnS and acquired by a CCD camera. A computer, running an image processing software developed by the Authors, analyzed the mean trabecular orientaion in given areas
