โœฆ Synopsis

Fracture toughness tests on compact tension specimens of aluminum 7075-T6.51 were carried out to investigate the influence of the crack length ratio on the critical stress intensity factor. The results showed that there is probably no, or only a minor influence of the crack length ratio in the investigated range of crack length ratios (about 0.35 < a/W < 0.75). However, the results were influenced by an effect of the fatique crack surface geometry. This effect is also studied and its influence on the critical stress intensity factor is discussed.
