✦ Synopsis
The main objectives were to determine the modulating effects of all-trans retinoic acid on the number, size and multiplicity of aberrant crypt foci as well as the in vivo expression of the genes c-myc and c-fos. These foci, which are hypothesized to be the pre-malignant lesions of colon cancer, were induced in Sprague-Dawley rats with a single injection of azoxymethane. Rats were fed either a control diet (A1 N-76) or the control diet to which had been added 75 mg/kg or 150 mg/kg all-trans retinoic acid.
