In this Paper the use of fibre composites in satellites is investigated. The strength and stiffness ratios of carbon and glass fibre composites are discussed. Testing and applications of the composites in specific satellites are reported.

β¦ Synopsis
Effectiveness of rand~n fibers in composite naterials 8iKnifioantly affects the overall properties of composite nateriaA8. Bxpressions for effeotlvenes8 factors in two and thres di~ensione of random fibres are derived and it is shown that the efficiency of random fibres at a point in a speoJ~nen are dependent on the proxΒ£attΒ₯ of the point from the marfaoe of the specimen. This aepeot has technically eignificant implications An interpreting test data and in reoommend~ug design values from experimental s~udAe8 and these are discussed in detail. It Is also shown that the results obtained in this study are in 8greement with several earlier experimenta~ and theoretical studies.
