✦ Synopsis
A new principle for ultra-short optical pulse compression based on cross phase modulation (XPM) in optical dispersion shifted (DS) fiber is theoretically analyzed and experimentally implemented. The proposed interferometric technique produces sub-picosecond pedestal-free optical pulse in a wide range of wavelengths by using low input powers. Moreover, high stability has been theoretically predicted and experimentally observed.
