β¦ Synopsis
A procedure is presented which allows site response analyses to be performed with any general multidimensional finite element analysis package. Numerical results which corroborate the theory are presented. Aiso, as an illustration of the procedure, results of an effective stress analysis for the seismic response and liquefaction of a horizontally layered saturated sand deposit are presented.

Some of the damage to the infrastructure observed in past earthquakes occurred in Alaska could be related to the existence of permafrost. However, only limited research has been carried out so far to investigate the effects of permafrost on the seismic site response. Permafrost with relatively high
An integrated probabilistic seismic hazard analysis procedure that incorporates nonlinear site effects, PSHA-NL, is developed and used to characterize the influence of thick deposits of the upper Mississippi Embayment (ME) on seismic site coefficients. PSHA-NL follows the methodology of the 2002 USG
Over the last decade, the seismic response of landfills made of municipal solid waste has drawn attention mainly due to the environmental and public-health issues that could be raised in the event of a failure. Nevertheless, there are several associated technical issues that have not been adequately
The seismic site response of alluvial valleys with limited width is evaluated using three engineering models. The models are based on the one-dimensional, two-dimensional and the frame model approaches. The objective is to analyse the effects of the main parameters governing surface motions and prov
