Ionic diffusivity, electrical conductivity, membrane and thermoelectric potentials in isotropic and homogeneous colloidal suspensions, and granular porous media saturated by a binary symmetric 1:1 electrolyte are four interrelated phenomena. The microstructure and the surface properties of the solid

β¦ Synopsis
proaches yield seemingly different methods for deriving the effective diffusivity or conductivity tensors. Perhaps because of the apparent divergence of these approaches, numerical studies and comparisons of theory with experimental data have been lacking. This paper aims to unify various approaches for periodic media and establish a relationship between the periodic and random model for heterogeneous media. Numerical studies are also performed with the most efficient numerical schemes and the results are compared to experimental data.

The altered free volume state model proposed in the earlier work for polymer solutions and melts is extended to cover solid polymeric systems. Within this framework, model equations have been developed to correlate diffusion data in semicrystalline polymers, crosslinked polymers, filled polymers, bl
