✦ Synopsis
We investigated the effect of Y 2 Ba 4 CuMO 10 (M = Zr, Sn and Ce) addition on the superconducting properties of melt-textured Y123 bulk materials. Melt-textured Zr-doped Y123 bulk materials were fabricated from the mixed powders of Y123 and Y 2 Ba 4 CuZrO 10 . As an initial attempt, T c of the sample exhibited a low value of 86 K. However it was improved to be 90.5 K by addition of a small amount of Pt. The dispersion of fine Y 2 Ba 4 CuZrO 10 inclusions was observed in the melt-textured samples. The critical current density was enhanced with increasing the amount of Zrphase particles. The Y 2 Ba 4 CuMO 10 (M = Sn and Ce) added Y123 bulk superconductors were also fabricated and their microstructures and superconducting properties were investigated. When the Y 2 Ba 4 CuCeO 10 was employed, BaCeO 3 particles were dispersed in the melt-textured bulk samples.
